Collecting John Deere Toy Tractors

A Guide to Diecast Toy Collecting

If you are looking to hold a John Deere themed bithday party, you might also want to buy some John Deere toys. Diecast toy collecting has been a great favourite of boys young and old and the addition of some mint condition John Deere tractors will be  much appreciated. At the birthday party of course, don't forget the John Deere Party Supplies to amke it a great party. We have some great ideas in our party shop.

Collecting diecast toys has been a favourite hobby for both children and adults for many years. These mini replicas of full size vehicles have fascinated many generations. Many diecast toys in perfect condition, complete with the original box, special markings and price tags have increased in value enormously. Some of these models were specially made for store openings, launches of new products or special events. They were offered for sale in stores, given as prizes in competitions or sold through catalogs where they could be purchased as sets.

Originally only a few models were produced but over the years they have been manufactured for major racing events, releases of new car lines and to promote cereals, popular drinks and cartoons. All the common vehicles can be found as diecast models including police cars, farm vehicles, ambulances and army tanks. Some popular models include John Deere toy tractors, diecast toy trucks and diecast toy cranes.

The box that the diecast model came with was usually made from thin cardboard or plastic and those models with their original case in good condition are particularly prized. As the boxes were made of flimsy material they can easily be damaged by moisture, sunlight or dirt. Keeping the box in perfect condition is often more of a challenge than preserving the diecast vehicle itself!

Diecast models are often displayed in plastic showcases but some collectors store their prized models in plastic bags or storage boxes. This will keep the cars and boxes dry and away from damaging sunlight. If displayed in showcases the models need to be dusted often with a dry cloth. A damp cloth should not be used on boxes as this can fade the ink or wrinkle the box.

Diecast toys kept over from childhood may be worth collecting if they are examples of rarer models. These include models made for a particular product that is obsolete, or a model made to represent a sports personality. Information on rarity values can be found from speciality magazines, collectors catalogs or your local library. Clubs and conventions are good places to find enthusiasts with the information you need, and to trade, sell or buy diecast toys.

The condition of john deere diecast vehicles may be described as below. Mint generally means that there are no defects or wear marks.

Mint condition - There are no broken, missing or misaligned parts. The paint is perfect and there are no glue marks or other assembly marks.

Mint in Box - These are mint condition models in their original box and packaging.

Mint on Card - These are models still enclosed in the original blister packaging.

Some examples of Diecast Toys that are much sought after by collectors and therefore more valuable include the following.

Limited Editions - These diecast toys were produced in a restricted number and the cast was then destroyed. Limited editions are highly collectible and the number of models produced in the run should be included in the information supplied with the model.

Limited Production Cars - Examples include Matchbox Challenge cars, Treasure Hunt Hunt Wheels, Racing Champion's Chase cars and Johnny Lightening White Lightening cars.

Retired Toy Cars - Toy vehicles that the manufacturer has stopped making. They may decide to reissue the vehicle later with color or detail changes.

Toy Vehicles with Certificates - Vehicles produced by Franklin Mint or Danbury Mint may include Certificates of Title or Certificates of Authenticity.

Diecast toys with their original paperwork and packaging will be more valuable than the same model without the packaging. If you plan to sell a toy vehicle keep the original packaging in as good condition as possible.

You can greet the guests with a themed Personalized Birthday Banner. It features an image of the tractor that everyone recognizes. Now add your own words. Make the message anything you want.

That same landmark tractor provides the shape for the 17" John Deere pinata. Fill it up with candy and small toys. Some of that candy could be from Marshmallow Farms. Featuring the cutest chicken, pig, cow, and sheep you ever saw, they'll get gobbled right down. Watch those kids eyes open wide when they come spilling out.

Be sure to take some photos with the kids seating in the John Deere Tractor Stand-in. Just like in carnivals from yesteryear, kids put their head through the hole and smile, smile, smile.

Don't forget the Cowboy Hats! Dress the birthday boy or girl in a full Horse Costume. Wrap that Red Bandana around and click the shutter. You can wear the Sheriff Badge, so they know who is in charge.

Others can wear a John Deere Hat and T-shirt. And don't forget to show them the john deere scroll you had prepared. Personalized, it records all the unique events that occurred the day your child was born.

To decorate the cake in the style of the day be sure to use the John Deere cake topper. There's that tractor again, you know. Since the cake is decorated to look like wheat fields, it's the perfect choice. Don't forget the supplied fence (to keep those candy cows out, you know), and three trees. Snap that perfect picture.

The kids will be ready for some fun Coloring & Activity Book action after that, you can bet. With 32 pages and four crayons, they'll be kept busy. After that, they can all settle down and watch the John Deere for Kids DVD. It features entertaining segments on how to harvest pumpkins and offers lively music.

But, hey, doesn't somebody have to do the dishes? Nope, because you got the Ultimate John Deere Party Pack you just toss the stuff away.

Ah.... Now, aint' that cozy?

It was only two nights before the annual big lifting off from the North Pole; all was in panic, as Rudolph red nose and all was under the weather. I'm a telliin you the infamous had phoned in sick, but also had left a tiding of good cheer.

Seems like Rudolph had spoken to his nephew in the Louisiana swamps' 'Bubba, I am truly to sick to guide the sleigh this yea you know; brow you know haw disappointed the children will be if Santa cant deliver the presents 'bro.''; Bubba' had agreed to come. In fact even as Rudolph was delivering his messages of gloom and joy, 'Bubba' had put on his John Deer cap; he and his red pickup were heading for the North Pole.
"Bubba" got to the North Pole with little time to spare; even though all reindeer snickered and laughed. They having not seen a deer in overalls and a John Deere Tractor hat and driving a pickup truck.

But Santa stepped in saying : "Just calm down cause we've all got a job to do; like it or not, "Bubbas" in charge as he's gonna be leading you."
So, at the usual time on Christmas Eve the sleigh departed the North Pole to deliver the toys and goodies to all the good little boys and girls; if 'Bubba' had his way to victims of Katrina even if they might not been quite so good. What a sight. Every thing was the same except... well, imagine instead of Rudolph with is nose so red, there was 'Bubba', John Deer cap in a red pickup truck out in front leading the way. Of course instead of Santa hollering, 'on Vixen and comet,' there was 'Bubba' hollering the rebel yell at the top of his lungs; as he departed each roof top, exclaiming, Peace on earth good will toward men; Merry Christmas You all, and to all a good night!

So don't forget the John Deere stuff at Christmas, all will be appreciated by your man especially the John Deere Hat The Redneck Reindeer !

Why I Love My John Deere Hat

"I will never put my name on a plow that does not have in it the best that is in me". This was a promise made by John Deere early in his career. More than 150 years later, this statement continues to hold true. However, it cuts a much wider swath than the tractors that still proudly bear his name.

John Deere started a revolution in the farming industry when he developed the world's first commercially successful steel plow. It didn't take long for farmers to recognize that anything bearing the John Deere symbol was worth hanging on to. As early as 1916 the John Deere logo began to appear on smaller items "to make sure that farmers appreciate the value of John Deere souvenirs'. Even then, farmers were proud to pay a 'small charge' for merchandise bearing the John Deere name.

Today, it's not just farmers who live and breathe John Deere Green. From caps to t-shirts, jackets to sportswear, the John Deere logo continues to be an internationally recognized symbol of quality as well as a classic piece of Americana. Shirts and tractor caps emblazoned with the john deere logo take us back to a simpler time, to the farming roots of our ancestors. John Deere Green is as American as baseball and apple pie and is a tradition proudly worn by millions, from farmers and ranchers to hip urbanites. Subsequently many people like to have John Deere themed birthday parties. The party industry has catered for this unusual birthday idea and there are as a consequence many John Deere Party Supplies available.

Thanks in part to Ashton Kutcher's 2002 appearance on MTV sporting a John Deere tractor cap, John Deere hats have become one of the most highly sought after items, both in stores and on the internet. Since that time, hundreds of thousands of hats have been sold to trend-seekers from all over the world. Demand for clothing branded with the John Deere logo has resulted in an unparalleled merchandising trend that has expanded to include, to name just a few:

  • an exclusive women's line of 'pink' John Deere Why I Love My John Deere Hat clothing
  • children's wear
  • Jackets Why I Love My John Deere Hat
  • sweaters
  • sportswear

Brenda Kruse, author of John Deere Collectibles Why I Love My John Deere Hat (MBI Publishing, 2001) writes 'Rarely does a brand reach the level of worldwide popularity that John Deere has since its humble beginnings in Illinois. As a result of its stunningly successful history since 1837, Deere & Company has established and maintained a loyal following of both customers and collectors."

So whether you're a traditionalist proud to wear a symbol of American farming history or someone making a fashion statement with the latest John Deere trend, the 'Green' symbol speaks for itself. It's pretty hard not to love a John Deere hat, no matter who you are.
